Your resume will make or break your chances at getting a job, so I am giving you my best resume-building advice plus a free resume template. Here are the do’s and dont’s of writing a great resume that will guarantee you that second interview.
Do NOT use a crazy font
It is unprofessional to use crazy-looking fonts on your resume. Use a basic font like Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri and make sure your text is black.
Print your resume on nice paper
You should print your resume on heavier stock that feels good in the hands. Hundreds of students give their resume and it is on plain printer paper. It will look extra good if you hand in your nice card-stock, professional resume. Go the extra mile and find nice paper to print your important documents on.
Do NOT pull an Elle Woods and print your resume on pink paper (I also wouldn’t spray your resume with perfume in case the hiring team has allergies)
Watch for spacing
You want your resume to be evenly spaced and for there not to be any eye-sores. Make sure you use the same text sizes for headings, italicize/bold the same categories and get rid of excess spacing.
There should not be a lot of white space in your resume. Use a slightly bigger font on certain words if you have too many blank areas.

Do NOT use more than one page
*unless you are applying for a position with many years of experience*
An entry-level position resume should not be more than one page! If you are a young professional and your resume is more than one page, you need to get rid of unnecessary information.
Do NOT post your resume on public job sites
If you are currently holding a position, do not post your resume to public job sites! Recruiters from your current company (and HR) can see these, and you could get yourself into trouble.
Apply for the position directly through the company’s website or through LinkedIn.
Also, most job postings on sites like Indeed and Zip Recruiter are old and outdated so be careful!
