One of the most important ways to save money, pay off debt, and grow your wealth is through budgeting. You can achieve this by finding a great budget planner and getting organized with it.
It is vital to your financial well-being that you keep track of your income and expenses through a budget planner in order for you to reach your monetary goals.
There are some great online budgeting tools you can use to make your budgeting a more efficient process, but I know many of you like to keep your budget on paper. I get it – it can be nice to see your budget right in front of you at all times and have the ability to add fun stickers to your sheet.
These are my 5 best budget planner tips to get organized with your finances.
1. Find a budget planner that works for your specific needs
If you are trying to pay off debt, then find a planner with a debt-payoff scheduler and goal setting section.
If you’re more interested in saving money for an upcoming expense, then it is more prudent for you to keep track of your expenses. There are budget planners with daily and monthly expense trackers, as well as savings trackers.
Some budget planners have all of the above! Here are a few of my favorite budget planners for your specific needs:
The Monthly Budget Planner $6.99
This budget planner from Amazon does a great job of tracking your expenses, bills, and savings. It is also very cute – a bonus.
This planner allows you to develop your daily, monthly, and yearly budget!
There are Financial Summary pages to note your debt and creditors, as well as several note pages to write down savings and debt-payoff goals. This planner makes it easy to keep track of your budget.

2. Choose the layout of your budget planner
Some people prefer online budgeting tools, and other budgeters want to have a physical copy of their budget. Decide which kind of platform you prefer for keeping track of your budget, and research your best options.
3. Bring your budget planner everywhere with you
You are more likely to stick to your budget if you have it within eyesight at all time. Keeping your budget in a drawer somewhere is just a recipe for disaster. You will most likely end up forgetting about your budget altogether if you can’t see the numbers right in front of your face.
Out of sight = out of mind
4. Use a Pencil
As much fun as it can be to color code and use pretty pens, I suggest writing the majority of your budget in pencil.
You will most likely need to adjust your budget at some point, and this will be much easier to do if you can erase.
Your budget planner will look less messy if you are not constantly scribbling out things! Having a messy planner can also make you feel a little bit stressed out, and we want to avoid this.
5. Stick to your budget!
Sometimes we can make a budget and then completely decide to ignore it.
You are making a budget for a reason – to keep track of your finances. Don’t give up your long-term financial goals for what you want now. It can be easy to go shopping one day and just say “screw it, I need those shoes,” but you deserve to treat yourself and your money with respect.
Having a goal section in your budget planner is important. It’s to remind yourself why you were following this budget in the first place and keep you motivated.
