1. Take The Stairs
Even if it’s just walking up and down one flight of stairs per day, it adds up over time! At the end of the week, it could be an entire Stair-Master workout worth of steps.
2. Park Farther Away From The Building
Park in the farthest parking spot away from the grocery store. Choose the parking spot farthest away from your office, so that you can have a nice walk to and from work.
3. Get Up And Move At Least Every Hour
It’s easy to stay seated when you’re immersed in your work, but take a break every hour to get your body moving. Go get some water or just walk a lap around your space. Stretch and move your muscles.
4. Drink A Ton Of Water
This is a sneaky way of getting your steps. The more water you drink, the more times you will have to get up to use the restroom. You’ll also be more hydrated. Win-win!
5. Go For A Walk During Your Lunch Break
Find a place where you can walk after you eat. Put on a good podcast or some music, and explore.
6. Take Your Pet For An Extra Walk
Your pet will appreciate this just as much as your body will. Go for extra walks early in the morning or late at night. Your pooch will love it, and it’ll keep both of you healthy!
7. Find A Physical Hobby
Find a trail near your home or work, and start going on walks and hikes. This should be a SAFE trail where you can go for long walks when the weather is nice! Even better and more fun if you take a buddy. It’s also safer if you walk with a buddy.
Take up frisbee or a sport where you can get your steps in while having fun!
8. Get A Fitness Tracker
Getting a Fitbit completely changed the game for me. I realized I wasn’t getting as many steps as I thought I was. I am a Finance major – I like seeing the data for myself. It’s also great motivation for getting steps because you can see the actual number on the screen.
There are cheaper alternatives to a Fitbit that work just as well.
